Weaving a single fringe on a narrow band.

I have woven a single sided fringe using the Pilismarot Roman heddle in a rigid heddle loom. This lovely bronze reproduction heddle was made by Robin Goatey https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/TheDancingGoats

I am using a reproduction of the Pilismarot heddle from Hungary.

I used 16/2 linen in three colours.  Here is the colour order for the holes and slots in the heddle.  The heddle takes 11 warp end sin total.

Start threading from the left with the first warp end in a hole.

Before adding the fringe weft I wove a short length of warp faced weave.  The weft is grey 16/2 linen

To add the fringe wefts you will need to have  a length of three strands of yellow and three strands of blue. Every pick contains the single grey weft which helps to secure the width of the band.  The two colours alternate and overlap on one edge.

The two colour fringe on one side of the band.

I love the way in which the overlapping fringe weft makes a striped pattern on the edge of the band.

Michael Williams  - Woodturner  - in the UK has made two reproductions of Roman era heddles. They are really lovely. Check out his web site at:

I am using a silk warp and weft.
